TRAIN SMARTER, REACT FASTER

EXPLORE NOW

Innovation in coaching often comes from asking one simple question: How can I help my athletes perform even better? For August's Creator of the Month, that question has shaped an entire coaching philosophy.

Stefan has spent years helping young Table Tennis players reach new levels of performance, not only through technical development but by training the cognitive skills that separate good players from great ones. His creative use of BlazePod has made him one of the standout contributors to the BlazePod Training Hub, where his engaging and highly effective drills are helping coaches around the world rethink the way they train.

A Lifelong Passion Turned Coaching Career

Stefan's love for Table Tennis began at just 12 years old during a holiday in Italy, where a friendly campsite tournament sparked a passion that would shape his future.

Determined to improve, he joined his local club, TTV Tios'51 in Tilburg, where he developed as both a player and, eventually, as a coach.

As his own competitive journey evolved, so did his ambition. Rather than focusing solely on personal success, Stefan found purpose in helping the next generation of athletes develop both on and off the table.

Over the years, he's coached players who have progressed through higher competitive levels, stood on podiums at major tournaments, earned Dutch National Youth Championship titles, and achieved milestones that once seemed out of reach. One of his proudest achievements came recently when the youth team he coached reached the club's first-ever youth competition final.

For Stefan, however, the greatest victories aren't always measured in medals.

Watching young athletes grow in confidence, maturity, and character is what makes the journey worthwhile.

Looking Beyond Technical Skills

Like many coaches, Stefan noticed something interesting.

His players were putting in countless hours developing their technical abilities, yet many still struggled during matches when it mattered most.

The issue wasn't their strokes.

It was their ability to quickly process information.

Reading an opponent's serve, recognising spin, predicting ball placement, and making the right decision in fractions of a second often proved to be the difference between winning and losing key points.

That realization led Stefan to search for new training methods that could develop these often-overlooked cognitive abilities.

When he introduced BlazePod into his sessions, everything started to change.

Players became quicker at reading situations, made better decisions under pressure, and reduced unforced errors during matches. The improvements weren't just visible—they were measurable.

Developing Smarter Athletes

While technical ability is important, Stefan believes every successful athlete shares a few common characteristics.

“The most important ability is being coachable,” he explains.

Players who are motivated to learn, open to feedback, and maintain a positive mindset consistently make the greatest progress—not only in sport but in life.

That philosophy sits at the heart of every session he delivers.

Why BlazePod Has Become a Core Coaching Tool

Today, BlazePod is integrated throughout Stefan's individual and group training sessions.

Whether players are on the table or off it, the Pods help develop:

  • Reaction speed

  • Decision-making

  • Cognitive processing

  • Balance and coordination

  • Core stability

  • Movement efficiency

Perhaps most importantly, the live performance data gives athletes immediate feedback.

Every session becomes an opportunity to measure improvement, set new personal bests, and stay motivated through visible progress.

For Stefan, that measurable growth is one of the biggest advantages BlazePod offers.

Making Cognitive Training Fun

One of Stefan's favourite aspects of BlazePod is the gamification it naturally brings into training.

Young athletes thrive when learning becomes engaging.

The competitive element created through reaction challenges keeps players fully invested while developing skills that directly transfer into competition.

Stefan believes coaches who haven't yet explored cognitive training are missing an important piece of athlete development.

“It's not just about making training more enjoyable,” he says. “It's about developing the decision-making abilities that traditional drills often overlook.”

Training Hub Favourites

As one of the BlazePod Training Hub's most active creators, Stefan has built an impressive collection of drills that coaches worldwide can use.

While each drill serves a unique purpose, three stand out as his personal favourites:

  • Red-Blue Hand Challenge

  • React to Green 100 Challenge

  • Squat, Listen and Move Challenge

These exercises combine reaction speed, movement, and decision-making into engaging activities that players can use during regular training sessions or as part of their pre-match preparation.

Preparing Players to Perform

One of the biggest ways Stefan uses BlazePod is before competition.

Rather than treating warm-ups as simply getting the body moving, he uses cognitive challenges to prepare the mind as well.

Players frequently tell him they feel noticeably sharper, more focused, and mentally switched on before stepping onto the table after completing a BlazePod warm-up.

They also appreciate being able to see objective data that tracks their progress over time.

In Table Tennis especially, Stefan has seen measurable improvements in players' ability to scan serves, anticipate play, and make faster decisions throughout rallies.

A Perfect Fit for Table Tennis

One feature Stefan particularly values is the sensitivity of the BlazePod sensors.

During multiball sessions, players often strike the Pods directly using soft Table Tennis balls to practise placement accuracy.

Whether the ball makes light or firm contact, the Pods respond consistently, allowing Stefan to create highly specific training exercises that integrate naturally into his existing coaching sessions.

Rather than replacing traditional Table Tennis drills, BlazePod enhances them.

Staying True to Your Coaching Vision

Stefan has one piece of advice for coaches looking to innovate.

Don't be afraid to do things differently.

If you believe your ideas can genuinely help athletes improve, keep experimenting, seek feedback, refine your approach, and stay committed to your vision.

Some of the best coaching breakthroughs happen because someone was willing to challenge conventional methods.

Looking Ahead

With players competing throughout Europe this year in tournaments across Poland, Belgium, and France, Stefan remains focused on helping every athlete become the best version of themselves.

His goal isn't simply to produce better results.

It's to develop better people.

He believes that if players continue improving their mindset, decision-making, and overall performance, the trophies and rankings will naturally follow.

Coaching with Purpose

Ask Stefan what motivates him to keep learning, creating, and coaching every day, and his answer is immediate.

It's the players.

Helping young athletes achieve goals they once thought impossible, watching their confidence grow, and hearing them say “Thank you” years later are the moments that make every training session worthwhile.

It's this passion for continual improvement, combined with his innovative use of BlazePod, that makes Stefan such a deserving Creator of the Month.

His work reminds us that great coaching isn't just about teaching skills—it's about developing athletes who can think faster, react smarter, and grow into confident people both on and off the table.
